Comienza oficialmente la carrera por los premios Oscar después de una gala anterior sin ritmo y tras unas temporadas en la que están siendo políticamente correctos. Esperemos que este año se vuelva a retomar la esencia de los glamorosos galardones de la Academia de cine más popular del mundo.

No son de mis premios favoritos y no soy especialista en los Oscar, pero no puedo negar que parte del encanto que les encontraba es que premiaban y apostaban por ensalzar las películas que soportan al cine como industria y como espectáculo.

En los últimos años los premios más importantes fueron para películas pequeñas y casi independientes como Moonlight, Parasitos y Nomadland.  Aunque son maravillosas no son del estilo de Hollywood.  

Todavía tratando de vencer la mala racha en pandemia, las grandes productoras han arriesgado al lanzar sus películas, muchas de ellas retrasadas durante casi dos años en su estreno.

Aquí algunas de ellas:

Jane Campion sigue haciendo historia en los Oscar después de haber sido la primera mujer nominada a un premio de la Academia por dirección, y tras haberlo ganado por el guion adaptado en 1994 por The Piano. Campion está nominada en tres categorías: guion adaptado, como productora a mejor película y como directora, convirtiéndose ahora en la primera directora nominada dos veces en esta última categoría. 

Otro gran nombre es Steven Spielberg, quien vuelve con West side story, el magnífico remake de una obra ganadora de varios premios. Nos emociona verlo en la competición, al igual que a Kenneth Branagh con su película Belsfast.

Branagh es querido en estos escenarios, pues llegó como niño prodigio cuando, con apenas 29 años, llegó nominado por su película Enrique V (1989), justo el año en que Denzel Washington ganó su primera estatuilla. Este año, Denzel espera ganar su tercer galardón.

Paul Thomas Anderson y Ryusuke Hamaguchi completan la lista de nominados en la categoría de mejor director.

En la arena de mejor actor principal se perfilan, como ya mencioné, el gran Denzel Washington (uno de los mejores actores de todos los tiempos) y Will Smith con un papel “oscarizable” al cien por cien, pues representa al padre estadounidense que imagina, crea y hace cumplir el sueño americano: el padre de las estrellas del deporte y famosas hermanas Williams.

Como gran candidato se menciona al español Javier Barden, quien nuevamente interpreta a un cubano, esta vez con verdaderas posibilidades. En la película Antes que anochezca interpretó al escritor Reinaldo Arenas y ahora encarna al músico y actor Desy Arnaz.

Por su maravillosa interpretación en la película El poder del perro, de Jane Campion, Benedict Cumberbatch cierra la lista junto al gran y fresco actor Andrew Garfield, nominado por el magnífico filme Tick Tick boom.

En la categoría de guion adaptado, este año brilla con luz propia Dune, la películade Denis Villeneuve que adaptó muy bien una obra maestra de la literatura universal que muy pocos se habían atrevido a adaptar y que nadie había logrado.

En esta categoría, esta pieza compite contra otras como CODA, adaptada por Sian Heder, The lost Daugter, de la magnífica y bella Maggie Gyllenhaal, quien llega con esta a su segunda nominación al Oscar luego de ganar el premio a mejor directora en el prestigioso Fetival de Venecia este año. Cierra este apartado Jane Campion, por su adaptación de la novela de Thomas Savage, El poder del perro.

Este año, siendo que las plataformas virtuales están ganando cada vez más terreno con producciones independientes, espero que la Academia premie una gran producción y reconduzca su camino como columna vertebral de la industria del cine y el entretenimiento mundial.
